Brief Description of My Real Job: Director of Community Research and Pediatric Asthma Camp Program Services, American Lung Association - Southeast Region. Serves as the Principal Investigator for Project ASPIRE,a research program conducted jointly by the ALA – SE and the Emory University School of Medicine in accordance to principles of community-based participatory research. Responsible for designing and pilot-testing a home-based family intervention that integrates individually tailored asthma education with strategies to reduce the impact of caregiver and family stress on asthma management. Also provides direction for the development, implementation and evaluation of the ALA – SE summer resident asthma camp, Camp Breathe Easy.
Research and Practice Interests: Asthma management in inner-city, underserved pediatric populations, health care access, pediatric asthma education, child asthma and its correlation with obesity and overweight conditions.
Georgia Asthma Advisory Council Member; Junior Affiliate of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology Member; Partnership for Community Action Head Start/Early Head Start Program Health Services Advisory Committee, Chairman, 2006-2007; American Public Health Association Member; and Georgia Public Health Association Member.
My AAE Role/Projects: I have been an AAE member since 2000. In 2006 I was elected to the Board of Directors for a three year term. Elected as Ethics Committee Chair in 2006; became member of the Nominations Committee and Conference Planning Committee in 2006.
Personal Comments: I would like to have a more deliberate focus on urban, underserved children with asthma and their families. Asthma awareness and education in the minority community is my personal primary vision.
