Treasurer
Kathryn "Kay" Stiffler, RRT-NPS, RPFT, AE-C
Brief description of my real job: I am the Program Coordinator for the Community Asthma Action Program at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. My favorite part of my job is being able to go out into area schools and teach asthma awareness classes to all students from K-12 (teachers and parents too!) whether they have asthma or not; and then to work specifically with those students that do have asthma to help them learn more on how to manage their asthma. We also hold numerous screening and education programs in the community and provide in-hospital asthma education as requested.
Research & practice interests: Asthma education in a school-based environment, community outreach
AAE roles/projects: New to Board April 2006
Personal comments: I am currently in my second year as the Chair of the Virginia Asthma Coalition which I have been a member for four years. I am also a member of the AAAAI, ACAAI, and AARC; and I am the Organizational Liaison between the AAAAI and the AARC. I had the opportunity to speak on asthma education at the International School Nurse Conference in 2005 in addition to five other conferences--which tells me "we can make a difference if we try!" For the past five years, I have received the 1st place honor of the Speaker with the most engagements with our hospital's Speaker's Bureau (my lowest year was 41).
