E. Ellis Scholarship Application

The Association of Asthma Educators (AAE) is pleased to offer a $325 scholarship for AAE members who need financial assistance to take the National Asthma Educator Certification Boards (NAECB) certification exam

Applicants must be a member of the Association of Asthma Educators in order to apply for this scholarship and be taking the exam for the first time, in order to apply for this scholarship. 

This scholarship was created by the founding members of AAE in memory of Elliot F. Ellis, MD.  Dr. Ellis was instrumental in supporting AAE during the creation of the organization in 1998.  The scholarship is available to AAE members in good standing who are seeking to obtain initial certification as a certified asthma educator (AE-C) through the National Asthma Education Certification Board.

A committee which includes one board member liaison will review and select recipients for the award.

Applicant requirement: Applicant must be taking the NAECB exam for the first time and must be a member of AAE in good standing. Applicant must not be eligible for reimbursement from another source if they pass the exam. Applicants must first take and pass the NAECB self-assessment exam before being granted this scholarship. 

Award Process: In acceptance of this scholarship, the applicant must send $25 to AAE within 4 weeks of being notified of receiving the scholarship and will have 6 months to take the exam.  If the applicant fails to take the exam in that time they will forfeit the $25 portion of the fee.  A mentor will be provided to help applicants prepare for the exam if they so desire.

Scholarship Award amount:  $325. 

Applicant will be responsible for $25 of exam fee. Cost of Certification exam fee is $350.

Award selection:  The committee members will decide on which applicants receive an award.   Selection criteria include number of years of membership with AAE, location of practice, percent time of providing asthma education and need.   The number of awards each year will be based on need and available funds.
